Continuing its mission for a more inclusive future, the Women in IT Awards is launching the Women in IT Summit in Toronto, Canada.
On November 21, 2019 the Women in IT Global Initiative organized by Bonhill, Information Age and DiversityQ, will launch the first Women in IT Awards and Women in IT Summit for Canada. Marie Wiese will help host and MC the event in Toronto at the Four Seasons Hotel.
Following the astounding success of the Women in IT Awards and Summit in London, Singapore, Dublin, New York City and Silicon Valley, we are thrilled to see them expand their mission and community to Canada. “As a strong advocate for women in tech, I am thrilled to see Canada provided with this opportunity to get involved and contribute to the growth of women in tech on a national scale through communities and events such as the Women in IT Awards and Summit”, says Marie Wiese, who was nominated for the Silicon Valley Digital Leader of the Year Award as well as the Canada Advocate of the Year Award for her work on the Women Talk Tech Podcast.
While Canada has a storied history as a diverse society, we still have a long way to go as far as gender parity particularly in the IT and technology industries. “Recent studies reveal that female national enrollment in STEM universities is 19% on average, and that just 12% of the country’s 280,000 professional engineers are women. Furthermore, the number of women in leadership roles is just as low”, claims the Women in IT organizers.
This year’s inaugural one-day summit program aims to tackle these statistics and concerns through business and professional development lead topics. This event with include presentations, insightful panel discussions and in-depth fireside chats with tech leaders dedicated to closing the gender gap. This year’s themes focus on:
- Leadership through innovation and change
- Leveraging diversity for greater ROI
- Pursing your career dream in tech
- Investing in your professional development
Along side her MC role at this event, Marie will also be leading a Fireside Chat on “Diverse and inclusive technologies” including AI, and a panel discussion on “Getting comfortable with being uncomfortable”, a discussion about where we need to do more work on female advancement.
This Women In IT Canada event will unveil talented high achievers in IT, bestowing significant awards for the industry at an evening black tie gala. Contribute to your personal growth in the IT sector through a series of discussions at the summit or join your women allies by supporting them at the awards ceremony in the evening.
